Healthcare System

Hungary operates a mandatory health insurance system through NEAK (Nemzeti Egészségbiztosítási Alapkezelo — National Health Insurance Fund). All employed and self-employed individuals pay mandatory health insurance contributions. NEAK contracts public and some private providers. Long waiting lists drive a significant private healthcare market, particularly in dental care where Hungary is a major European hub for dental tourism.
